In 1985, BR made its first trials in dedicating traction to specific traffic flows. A dozen Type 2s in the best condition were renumbered in to a special Class 25/9 sub-class and re-allocated to Carlisle, initially for the movement of rock salt. No. 25283 was one of those selected and gained the new No. 25904, regularly paired with No. 25912. It is offered with miniature three-part snowploughs and ‘domino’ headcodes.
