Introduced to the range earlier than anticipated to cater for ongoing demand of BR two-tone green models, No. D5234 is one of only a handful of locomotives which were equipped with steam generators for the heating of passenger stock. This model is correct for the 1963-1970 period during which it was based around Nottingham and Birmingham divisions. With its train-heating capability, it would be equally at home on passenger or freight duties.
