THE CLOSE ASSOCIATION with Hornby continued into 2007 when the Class 56 appeared. The announcement of the Type 5 model opened up several opportunities but the key one, in our eyes, was the return to service of the class with new open access freight operator Fastline Freight. With full approval and the necessary licensing agreements in place, we set to work in specifying our requirement for No. 56302 that was later named after the Fastline engineer who oversaw the locos¹ refurbishment project. The contemporary theme hit a chord that was helped by a well-executed job by the Margate team.
