GWR green Class 57 is new Didcot limited edition

It’s the announcement you’ve all been waiting for! Didcot Railway Centre is to join with us to commission a special commemorative model from Bachmann to mark the 175th anniversary of the Great Western Railway. There’s also the chance to win a trip on the ‘Night Riviera’ sleeper.

IT’S BEEN AN EXTREMELY BUSY few months since we launched the RAIL EXCLUSIVE brand. Lots of exciting developments are in the pipeline but the first to come to fruition is this ‘OO’ gauge limited edition Class 57.

Class 57/6 No. 57604 Pendennis Castle was a clear choice after the tremendous success of previous
‘OO’ gauge locos in GWR green. We envisage that it will be an obvious acquisition for all of those who took advantage of our previous Class 60 No. 60081 Isambard Kingdom Brunel and expect demand from collectors to be very high.

The actual locomotive – one of four employed on the ‘Night Riviera’ sleeper service – was given its ‘heritage’ repaint earlier this year to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the Great Western Railway.
It was formally unveiled at Didcot Railway Centre on June 20th and provided a welcome reminder of the events 25 years previously, when four Class 47s were similarly treated. With the Great Western Society taking a key role, the Didcot preservation site will benefit greatly from this venture.

The model, produced with the full approval of First Great Western, will be based around the Bachmann product and incorporate the latest specification with both standard and sound-fitted options available.
A raft of extras will include etched brass nameplates and special packaging. As is normal, purchasers
of our previous limited edition will be able to retain their certificate number - this will be automatically allocated for orders received before December 20th. A quick response before this date also gives entry into a draw to win a trip on FGW’s sleeper train and a visit to Didcot Railway Centre.

Philip Sutton of RAIL EXCLUSIVE commented: “It’s great to be working with Didcot on this project not
only because of it being the
175th anniversary year but also because this particular diesel loco made its public debut in GWR green livery at the preservation centre.”

We are now open to take orders on this model. Full details and prices are given on our product pages.
